Security cameras that work when you need the footage

Most people discover their camera system has a problem on the day they need a recording. We design, install, and secure video surveillance and access control so coverage is planned, footage is retained, and the system does not become a back door into your network.

Sound familiar?

You probably need this if…

  • You went to pull footage and it was missing, blurry, or pointed at the wrong spot
  • Your cameras still use default passwords or are exposed to the internet
  • Access cards are never deactivated when employees or tenants leave
  • Your camera system and your IT network were installed by people who never talked
  • You are adding locations and want consistent security across all of them
  • You are not sure how long footage is kept or who can view it

Start with what you need to see

A good surveillance system starts with questions, not camera counts. What events matter to you: theft, liability claims, safety incidents, after-hours entry? Where do they happen? Do you need to identify a face or a license plate, or only see that someone was present? The answers decide camera placement, lens choice, resolution, and lighting far more than any spec sheet.

We walk the site with you and plan coverage around entrances, exits, parking, loading areas, cash handling, and other sensitive spaces. We also consider retention: how long recordings must be kept to be useful, how much storage that requires, and who should be able to review footage. Getting those decisions right up front avoids the expensive discovery that a system was never capable of answering the question you have.

Cameras are network devices, so secure them like one

Modern IP cameras, recorders, and access control panels are computers connected to your network. Left with default credentials, outdated firmware, or open ports to the internet, they can become an easy entry point for attackers and a source of embarrassing exposure. This is the gap that opens when a security integrator and an IT provider work separately.

Because GDS Technology provides managed IT and cybersecurity, we install physical security as part of your network rather than beside it. Cameras and controllers are placed on segmented networks, default credentials are replaced, firmware is kept current, and remote viewing is set up through secure methods instead of open ports. The same team that protects your data protects the systems watching your doors. That also means one place to call when a camera goes offline, instead of a security vendor and an IT provider each insisting the problem belongs to the other.

  • Network segmentation for cameras and access control
  • Unique credentials and role-based viewing permissions
  • Firmware updates and secure remote access
  • Power over Ethernet and cabling designed for each device

Access control and the bigger physical security picture

Cameras record what happened. Access control decides what is allowed to happen. Card, fob, or mobile credential systems let you control who can enter which doors at which times, remove access instantly when someone leaves, and review an audit trail of entries. Paired with cameras, they give you both prevention and evidence. Access control also solves a common, quiet risk: physical keys and cards that were never returned. With an electronic system, a departing employee or tenant loses access the moment you remove them, and you no longer need to rekey doors to be sure.

For commercial properties, physical security also extends to telecom rooms, risers, and rooftops, where unauthorized access can disrupt tenants and building systems. We can tie access control into riser management practices so shared infrastructure spaces are governed with the same rigor as your front door. One partner designs the cabling, installs the devices, secures the network, and supports it afterward.

Frequently asked questions

How long should we keep camera footage?

It depends on your industry, insurance, and how quickly incidents are typically discovered. Some organizations have regulatory or contractual retention requirements. We help you choose a retention period and size storage to match it.

Can we view cameras from our phones?

Yes. We set up remote viewing using secure methods rather than opening ports directly to the internet, and we control who has viewing rights.

Can you work with our existing cameras?

Often, yes. We assess the current system for coverage, image quality, and security. Some equipment can be secured and reused. Some is end of life or cannot be secured, and we will tell you plainly.

Why does it matter that you also handle IT?

Cameras and access control live on your network. When one team designs both, the devices are segmented, patched, and monitored alongside everything else, instead of becoming an unmanaged weak spot.
