Security & Compliance

CMMC is a contract requirement now. Let's make it manageable.

If you do work for the Department of Defense, CMMC determines whether you can keep bidding on contracts. We help you understand what applies to you, close the gaps, and build the documentation that proves it.

Sound familiar?

You probably need this if…

  • You handle Federal Contract Information or Controlled Unclassified Information for DoD work
  • A prime contractor has asked about your CMMC level or SPRS score
  • You are not sure whether you need Level 1 or Level 2
  • Your System Security Plan is outdated, incomplete, or does not exist
  • Your IT provider says you are secure but cannot map that to specific requirements

CMMC in plain language

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program is how the Department of Defense verifies that contractors protect sensitive information. CMMC 2.0 has three levels. Level 1 covers Federal Contract Information and maps to the 15 basic safeguarding requirements in FAR 52.204-21. Level 2 covers Controlled Unclassified Information and aligns with the 110 security requirements in NIST SP 800-171. Level 3 adds requirements for a smaller set of contractors supporting the most sensitive programs.

Which level you need depends on the type of information you handle, and that is defined by your contracts. Some Level 2 contractors may self-assess, while many will need an assessment by an authorized third-party organization. Requirements and phase-in details are set by the DoD and can evolve, so it is important to confirm what your specific contracts require rather than relying on general assumptions.

Scoping is where most contractors win or lose time

Before you fix anything, you need to know where your covered information lives and which people, systems, and processes touch it. That boundary is your assessment scope. If it is drawn too broadly, you end up applying demanding controls to your entire business. If it is drawn too narrowly or inaccurately, an assessor will find the gaps. Careful scoping often makes compliance considerably more achievable.

Many smaller contractors benefit from isolating covered information into a defined enclave, such as a specific set of cloud services and devices used only for that work. Whether that makes sense depends on how your business operates. We walk through your actual workflows, including how drawings, specifications, and emails move between you, your primes, and your suppliers, before recommending an approach.

From gap assessment to sustained compliance

We start with a gap assessment that compares your current environment against the requirements for your target level. You get a clear picture of which controls are met, partially met, or missing, with plain-language explanations of what each one means in practice. That becomes the foundation for your System Security Plan and your Plan of Action and Milestones, the two documents assessors rely on most.

Remediation is where the real work happens: configuring multi-factor authentication, logging, access controls, encryption, incident response procedures, and many other technical and administrative controls. Because our team is GC3-certified in compliance consulting and also manages IT day to day, we can both interpret the requirement and implement the fix, rather than handing you a report and leaving you to figure it out.

Compliance is ultimately your organization's responsibility, and no reputable partner can guarantee an assessment outcome. What we can do is help you achieve the requirements, keep evidence organized, and maintain the controls over time, because CMMC is not a one-time project. Systems change, people come and go, and your security posture has to keep up. We help you keep your SSP, evidence, and SPRS information accurate as things change.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need CMMC Level 1 or Level 2?

It depends on the information you handle under your DoD contracts. If you only handle Federal Contract Information, Level 1 generally applies. If you handle Controlled Unclassified Information, Level 2 generally applies. Your contracts and contracting officer are the authoritative source, and we help you interpret what they say.

Can you certify us?

No. Certification assessments are performed by authorized third-party assessment organizations, and self-assessments are attested by your own leadership. We help you prepare, implement the required controls, and organize your evidence. Compliance remains your organization's responsibility.

What is an SPRS score?

The Supplier Performance Risk System is where contractors post the results of their NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments. The score reflects how many requirements are implemented. Primes and the DoD use it to gauge supplier risk, so an accurate, supportable score matters.

How long does CMMC preparation take?

It varies widely based on your starting point, scope, and target level. A small contractor with a well-managed environment may move quickly, while others need substantial remediation. Our gap assessment gives you a realistic plan rather than a guess.
